Hey there,
Welcome to another round of The Advantage Hit 📨 - where we spill inbox secrets that drive real conversions!
Here’s the thing about this industry. Agencies love a good highlight reel. The 47x ROAS screenshot. The flow that “scaled a brand to 7 figures.” The case study that conveniently skips the part where three campaigns failed before that one landed.
We get it. It sells. But it doesn’t teach you anything.
The agency move: Curate the wins. Bury the losses. Look invincible and charge accordingly.
The operator move: Show the scars. Document the wreckage. Let the failure do the teaching.
Today we’re doing the operator move!
We’re cracking open an experimental campaign we sent a few weeks ago that flatlined. And we’re not going to dress it up. The numbers are bad, the mistakes were avoidable, and the worst part is we’ve flagged the exact same issues inside client accounts for months.
Turns out we needed the wake-up call just as much as anyone.
Here’s what happened..

The open rate looked passable. Everything underneath it was a disaster. A 22% open rate with a 0.3% click rate means the subject line did its job and the email body failed completely. That gap is where the problem lives.
The #3 Mistakes We Made ⚠️
Mistake #1: We wrote it for ourselves, not for you.
The whole email was “we launched this, we built that, here’s what we’re excited about.” Classic ego trap. When someone opens an email at 8am on a Tuesday, they have one question: what’s in it for me? We never answered it. If your flow copy reads like a press release, you’ve already lost the click.
Mistake #2: Three CTAs. Three asks. Zero action.
We had three buttons pointing to three different places. It felt thorough. It read as scattered. A reader with too many options picks none. One email, one ask. That’s it. We knew this. We ignored it because we wanted to “maximize the send.” It backfired completely.
Mistake #3: Monday at 9am. We have no excuse.
Monday inboxes are a battlefield. Everyone’s triaging the weekend backlog, half-awake, one coffee in. Your email is not the priority. We preach send-time logic to clients every week and then walked straight into the worst window on the calendar. That one still stings!
What we actually did to fix it📈
We didn’t just tweak the copy. We rebuilt the entire communication model.
We moved from a “Newsletter” to a Dispatch. We stripped the headers, killed the three-button layout, and sent one plain-text message from a personal address.
The Result:
Open Rate: Jumped to 41%
Clicks: Up 6x
The fix wasn’t about a better graphic; it was about removing the “marketing” feel. In 2026, authenticity is the only luxury. People don’t want to be sold to; they want a transmission from a human they actually trust.
Beyond the click: The 2026 “DARK POOL”
Here’s the part of email marketing most agencies ignore: Your dashboard is only telling you half the story.
We realized that when our experimental campaign failed, it wasn’t just because people didn’t click. It was because the email wasn’t screenshot-worthy.
We are living in the age of Social Proof Shifting. High-level buyers don’t always click your links immediately. They screenshot your raw, honest text, send it to a private Slack or WhatsApp group for a “vibe check,” and then buy later via a direct search.
If your email doesn’t spark a conversation in the “dark pools” of private messaging, it’s invisible.
The one thing worth doing this week
Pull your last 3 sends. Look at the click-to-open rate (CTOR), not just the open rate. If opens are decent but CTOR is under 10%, your subject line is carrying a body that isn’t converting.
Then, check your Reply-to-Revenue ratio. If nobody is talking back to your brand, your deliverability is on a timer. Send one plain-text email this week. Ask one specific question. When people reply, Gmail moves you to the Primary Inbox forever.
Reply and tell us: What’s the worst performing email you’ve ever sent? Real numbers, no shame. We’ll feature the most honest ones in our next issue.
And if you do the homework and find the gaps run deeper, that’s what we’re here for! Let a team that lives in the data find your gaps.
No decks or pitches. Just a 15-minute look at your actual Klaviyo setup and an honest read on where the money is leaking. 500+ audits done. We know what we’re looking for!
